Wolves fans hail official club post

A number of Wolves supporters have been hailing their players after a club post showed them receiving their booster jab on Monday.

Wanderers picked up a solid 0-0 draw at home to Champions League holders Chelsea on Sunday afternoon as their resolute form continues. That result followed the 1-0 win away to Brighton last week, leaving Wolves sitting eighth in the Premier League currently and dreaming of European football next season.

Away from the field of play, Bruno Lage and his players have been leading by example, with the club’s official Twitter channel sharing photos of them all receiving their booster jab as an extra layer of protection against the global pandemic.

The manager had recently stated that every member of the squad was keen to get the job, with Wolves having one of the best vaccination uptake rates of any Premier League club (Daily Mail).

It is great to see at a time when all footballers are being urged to get vaccinated, helping to ensure that the Premier League schedule continues as normal for as long as possible amid a spate of recent postponements.

Campbell names three likely Rangers exits

Rangers could lose ‘a lot of experience’ this summer, with Allan McGregor, Connor Goldson and Steven Davis all poised to leave.

That’s according to Jordan Campbell, the club’s correspondent for The Athletic.

The lowdown

As it stands, the trio will all be out of contract come 31 May. McGregor and Davis have both had two spells at Ibrox and now boast 421 and 333 appearances respectively for the club.

They’re also heavily decorated – the former has won 12 trophies at Ibrox in addition to the Player of the Year award in 2020/21, while the latter has won seven (and been named POTY twice).

Goldson, meanwhile, joined from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018 and has featured 198 times.

The Englishman was a huge part of the squad that ended Celtic’s run of nine consecutive titles last season.

The latest

Campbell writes that McGregor, Goldson and Davis are ‘set to leave at the end of their contracts’.

He does, however, adopt a more optimistic tone on Leon Balogun and Scott Arfield, whose deals are both up at the end of the season too.

The hope is that securing extensions for those two ‘would offer some continuity’.

The verdict

McGregor, aged 40, and Davis, 37, are very much veterans. That’s reflected in their sub-£1million Transfermarkt valuations of £450,000 and £900,000.

Even if they were to stay, you’d imagine they’d only be signing a short-term extension, with retirement on the horizon.

But £7.2million-rated Goldson is yet to turn 30, and is seemingly on his way out during his prime years. Indeed, he’s attracting interest from the likes of West Ham United in the English Premier League.

He may not have claim to legendary status like the other two, but you could argue his departure will hurt the most.

Webber must sanction Gauld swoop

Daniel Farke’s Norwich City side are interested in a summer move for Ryan Gauld.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to TEAMtalk, who claim that the Canaries, along with the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, Sheffield United, Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City, are keeping a very close eye on the £3.15 million-rated SC Farense attacking midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is then reported that Norwich, as well as the other interested parties, have been in contact with the Liga NOS side with a request to be kept informed about the contract situation of the Scot, as his current deal with Farense is due to expire this summer.

Finally, TEAMtalk claim that Gauld is extremely keen on a move to England, meaning that the possibility of him not agreeing a new contract with the Portuguese side, and subsequently becoming available on a free transfer, appears extremely likely.

Webber must move

So far this season, Gauld has been in remarkable form over his 29 Liga NOS appearances for Jorge Costa’s side, with the 25-year-old scoring eight goals, providing six assists and creating 12 big chances, as well as taking an average of 2.4 shots and making 2.4 key passes per game, culminating in an extremely impressive average SofaScore match rating of 7.39 – ranking him as the club’s best performer in the Portuguese top flight.

As such, while Premier League football will undoubtedly be a step up from the Primeira Liga, Gauld would appear to be an excellent candidate to join up with Norwich in order to provide them with more firepower next season, as well as potentially being the player to finally solve the club’s number 10 conundrum.

Furthermore, with the Scot earning a rather modest £2,700-per-week wage at present, in addition to the fact he looks likely to be available to sign for free this summer, a move for the midfielder – whom the former Farense manager Sergio Vieira claimed is “up there with the best” players he has worked with – would appear to not only be beneficial on the pitch, but also on Norwich’s finances.

As such, a move for Gauld is something that should be very high on the list of Stuart Webber’s priorities this summer.

Man United in the lead for Darwin Nunez

Manchester United appear to be leading the likes of Tottenham in the race to sign Benfica forward Darwin Nunez.

The Lowdown: Man Utd interest in Nunez

Described as an ‘absolute beast’ earlier this month during a podcast discussing his display against Liverpool, the Uruguayan appears to be a man in demand this summer following his starring campaign in Portugal.

The 22-year-old has scored a whopping 33 goals in 39 games, impressing as a centre-forward, second striker and left winger.

The Uruguay international was linked with a big-money move to Manchester last week, and a fresh update has now emerged in their pursuit of a possible club-record deal.

The Latest: United leading the way for Nunez

Sport Witness relayed an update from Spanish outlet AS regarding Nunez on Tuesday. They claimed that 22-year-old could link up with super-agent Jorge Mendes, who is set to meet with ‘several English clubs’ regarding the Benfica forward.

United are thought to be ‘in the lead’ following an ‘express request’ from new manager Erik ten Hag.

The Verdict: Huge

Cristiano Ronaldo looks likely to be the only senior centre-forward available to Ten Hag when he arrives, with Edinson Cavani set to depart Old Trafford over the coming months.

Therefore, bringing in an exciting young attacker who has been prolific this season in numerous positions seems to be a smart move going forward.

Benfica want €130m for Nunez, which equates to around £109m and would make him the most expensive United signing of all time ahead of Paul Pogba, but it could prove to be the perfect one for Ten Hag in what the Red Devils are hoping will be a new era for the club.

Celtic could be offered Liverpool’s Origi

Celtic will have one thing on their mind this summer – building the squad and coaching staff to mount a title challenge.

The Hoops have surrendered their grasp of the Premiership title and it has cost Neil Lennon his job.

What’s the word?

One area where they may look to improve is offensively. Odsonne Edouard has regularly been linked with a move away and the latest on his situation is that Liverpool are interested in securing his services.

That’s according to Anfield Central, who reported this week that the Reds were ready to structure a deal which would see Divock Origi go in the opposite direction.

The Belgian has received minimal game-time this season and thus could leave Merseyside when the window opens this summer.

Edouard has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs in recent months, with West Ham and Leicester also reportedly interested in the Frenchman.

Ideal replacement

Origi has only scored once this season but that isn’t a fair barometer of the striker’s abilities. After all, he has started just twice in the Premier League throughout 2020/21,

The Belgian has a habit of scoring big goals, however. Whether it was against Barcelona in the 2018/19 Champions League or in the final itself, he is often the man for the big occasion.

Origi is still only 25 and you sense there is far more to come from a player who has had two successful loan spells away from Liverpool in the past.

He scored seven times during a short stint with Wolfsburg after netting nine times for Lille in 2014/15. Despite his lack of game-time, he has also scored 35 goals for Liverpool. You don’t manage that sort of tally without having a bit of quality about you.

Brendan Rodgers also rates him highly, something which should add to the lure of him replacing Edouard. Just as he did with the Frenchman, the former Celtic manager was the man who initially signed Origi for Liverpool.

Speaking about the forward in previous years, Rodgers noted: “We had him [Origi] at Melwood, the scouting team there had a wonderful presentation showing him from 15 years of age and we showed him how we would like to progress his game.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-boupendza-mcgeady-marsch-mccarthy” title=”Latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

Rodgers added: “He is a great talent. He hasn’t been allowed to show it as much as he would like because of the talent that is there [at Liverpool].”

If a player is good enough for Rodgers, then he’s certainly good enough for Celtic.

Origi feels like the type of player who could thrive in the Scottish game and get his career back on track. It would also be cost-effective including him in a deal with Edouard.

West Ham enter Kamara transfer race

West Ham are the latest team to be linked with a move for Glen Kamara this summer…

What’s the word?

According to GIVEMESPORT, sources close to the 25-year-old’s situation have confirmed there is interest from several Premier League clubs, including the Irons.

The likes of Watford, Everton, Arsenal and Brentford are said to have touched base with the Rangers midfielder’s representatives over a potential switch this transfer window.

It’s thought that the Scottish champions would want around £10m to let the Finland international leave Ibrox, as per the Daily Mail.

Forget Kral

The Hammers have been linked to several central midfield options in recent months but perhaps the most notable name has been Czech sensation Alex Kral, who has been playing alongside Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal at Euro 2020.

However, his performances have been hugely underwhelming and considering he’s likely to cost three times as much as Kamara, it would be a wise move for David Moyes to turn his attentions to the Gers star instead.

He’s a very viable alternative, too.

Kamara was one of Steven Gerrard’s best performers as the Teddy Bears recorded a historic league triumph. No outfield player managed a better average passing accuracy per game (90.5) than the 5 foot 11 dynamo, which suggests he’s a very composed player on the ball.

Furthermore, he also averaged one tackle. 0.9 interceptions and 0.9 key passes per league outing, via WhoScored.

Kamara has been touted as one of the best talents north of the border by ex-Gers ace Charlie Miller.

“Glen Kamara is the best midfielder in Scotland.

“He has the ability to go and play at a very high level. He is athletic, technically very good, is good in the tackle and is becoming a complete player. Maybe he could do to add a few more goals but he certainly assists in that area.

“Put it this way, there are players going for £30-£40million in England who couldn’t lace Kamara’s boots.”

Also lauded as a “special talent” by his former Dundee boss Neil McCann, the 25-year-old maestro could be a bargain squad depth option for Moyes to get his hands on ahead of next season.

One injury to either Soucek or Declan Rice would spell trouble, so the Scotsman certainly needs another addition in the role. For just £10m, it has to be a no-brainer.

Celtic: Charlie Wyke comments emerge

Sunderland manager Lee Johnson isn’t expecting Celtic target Charlie Wyke to return to the Stadium of Light, as reported by The Shields Gazette.

The Lowdown: Wyke talks

The Hoops were first linked with the 28-year-old back in April by former defender Mark Wilson. He claimed that Wyke was ‘on a list of potential summer signings’, and Celtic have spoken with the forward recently.

Football Insider suggested that Wyke, who is now a free agent, was ‘very keen’ to move to Celtic Park and made a series of demands to the Hoops’ hierarchy.

As we know, a cut-price move to Parkhead is yet to materialise, but it seems as if Sunderland aren’t expecting to land their former striker on a new contract.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-8/” title=”Celtic updates” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Johnson’s comments

As relayed by The Shields Gazette, Johnson was asked about Wyke’s future and he seemed to concede defeat in terms of Sunderland’s hopes of re-signing him, admitting:

“Charlie, I would say the door is ajar, but we’re certainly not expecting him to come back. I’d say that it would be him coming back to us and saying he wants to talk again, effectively.

“My gut says that he will move on, I’d say 95% that he’ll move on.”

The Verdict: Wyke’s demands putting Celtic off?

A free transfer for a striker who scored 30 goals last season seems a no-brainer, especially with Celtic seemingly in need of a new forward with Odsonne Edouard still expected to leave.

However, the Hoops could have been put off by Wyke’s demands. The striker wanted a four-year deal, his wages doubled and a multimillion-pound signing-on fee.

Wyke was on £6,400 per week with the Black Cats, so he may have been asking for close to £13,000 per week in Scotland. Across four years, that would be more than £2.6m in wages, along with a big signing-on fee, so perhaps Celtic have had second thoughts on bringing him to Glasgow.

Gers fans praise Ryan Kent v Hibs

Many Glasgow Rangers fans were absolutely delighted with the performance of Ryan Kent during their game against Hibernian on Sunday.

While the Gers may already have the Premiership title sewn up, they still have plenty more to play for. They are still unbeaten in the league (BBC) and they remain in the Scottish Cup – they face Celtic in the fourth round of that competition next week.

As such, each game has something riding on it. Kent clearly understood as such with his display against the Edinburgh outfit, and his goal to put the Gers 2-0 ahead – his 12th in all competitions this season – was absolutely fantastic.

All in all, he proved to be a menace on the wing, and his strike showed exactly what he is capable of producing. He also chipped in defensively by winning his share of tackles, proving his value to the team in more than just a goalscoring sense, and Steven Gerrard will want to see more of the same from the 24-year-old between now and the end of the campaign.

These Gers supporters could hardly hide their pleasure with Kent’s “sensational” performance, and they took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts.

Everton targeting Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes

As Football FanCast exclusively revealed earlier this month, Everton are in the hunt to find themselves a new winger this summer.

A number of names have been linked already, including Gareth Bale and rather typically for the Toffees, Wilfried Zaha.

What’s the word?

A fresh face has now emerged on Carlo Ancelotti’s radar with the Toffees in the race to sign Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes.

That’s according to Football Insider who suggest Everton are competing with Wolves in order to bring him to the Premier League.

The Old Gold are confident of landing him ahead of the Goodison Park outfit, however, with a part-exchange deal being discussed that would see Patrick Cutrone go in the opposite direction.

Guedes cost Valencia £34.5m back in 2018 so they may have to face losing any profit on the Portuguese this summer.

Deulofeu 2.0

By luring Guedes to Goodison Park in the coming months, Marcel Brands could unearth Everton’s brand new Gerard Deulofeu.

That’s because the duo play in a pretty similar way.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-everton-transfer-news-lukaku-leao-bissouma-berge-antony” title=”Read the latest Everton transfer news!”]

The Valencia winger has had an impressive campaign at the Mestalla, scoring seven goals and also registering seven assists.

A tricky attacker, the Portugal international is capable of dribbling past a man with ease, just as Deulofeu proved he could do in the Premier League.

During the course of this season, Guedes managed 2.1 dribbles per game in La Liga. Deulofeu, on the other hand, managed 2.2 in his last full season with Watford.

They are also capable of providing and scoring goals at a similar rate. Over the last two campaigns, Everton’s former Spaniard has scored a goal every 7.1 games. That’s compared to every 6.5 outings for Guedes.

What perfectly epitomises the pair of them is their enigmatic nature. At their best, they are capable of frightening the life out of defenders. However, in the very next game, they could be full of inconsistency.

Talking about the Everton target a few years ago, former Ballon d’Or winner Luis Figo commented: “Guedes is a fast, irreverent and unpredictable player, who himself builds actions for his teammates and is also able to finish well.”

The unpredictable nature is what could swerve Everton from making a move. That said, it would bolster their forward line considerably.

Named in Portugal’s squad for the European Championships, the 24-year-old ended the season in fine fettle; providing four assists and four goals in his final 13 outings.

This might just be worth the gamble from the Everton hierarchy.

Palmer: Raphinha would leave Leeds for Manchester United

Raphinha would be interested in joining a top-six club like Manchester United, says former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer.

According to The Independent, who say it would be a surprise if Manchester United were not in the conversation over a future transfer, the Red Devils are fans of the player.

Raphinha joined Leeds from Rennes last October before going on to enjoy a successful debut campaign at Elland Road.

In 30 league appearances, the Brazilian scored six goals and provided nine assists, proving to be arguably the Whites’ most dangerous attacker after Patrick Bamford.

It makes it no surprise that a team like Manchester United are fans of Raphinha, and Palmer believes a transfer to Leeds’ rivals would interest the 24-year-old.

“If you’re playing at a big club like Leeds United and you’re playing well, of course you’re going to be linked somewhere else,” Palmer told FFC when discussing the Raphinha to Manchester United link.

“As a player, if you get the opportunity to go play for a top-six club, you’re obviously going to be interested.”

It has been a slow start to the season for Leeds, who have taken just two points from their opening four games, but Raphinha has managed to grab his first goal of the new campaign after scoring that all-important equaliser against Everton last month.
